Our Chinoiserie Collection is based on the Chinese-style decorations that became popular in the Royal Palaces around the Western world mainly between 1750 and 1850. Many, happily, exist and have been restored to their former glory. Some were bought in China and brought back on the ships of the East India Company, while others were painted by European artists with the same exotic and extravagant styles. Gournay has adapted these designs to contemporary interiors and has expanded the range of backgrounds and color combinations to make this ancient skill of Chinese painting relevant and beautiful in a multitude of different interiors. We have a huge archive of images of both historical papers and our production of the last 40 years that we can adapt to your needs and we are always happy to work on new designs with our customers.
