Description:
Ever since King Leonidas, commanding three hundred Spartan hoplites, stopped the great Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae, the courage and sacrifice of these Greek warriors entered into legend forever. This black porcelain sculpture shows one of these brave soldiers with all his equipment: the colourful helmet with plume, the mask - which, thanks to a system of magnets, can be put on or taken off to reveal the warrior's face - the shield or the spear, as well as the shields. This wealth of detail, together with the decoration, the anatomy of the figure, modelled with total precision, and the meticulous work of ornamentation, show an extraordinary degree of virtuosity.
