A transitional piece, this wonderfully abundant pattern borrows elements from the Arts and Crafts movement's preference for mixing botanical studies into domestic furnishings, as well as the opulent patterns of the Art Deco era. Surface printing was pioneered in 1838 and the delicate textural effect created by applying the ink with rollers, known as 'arborescence', found in the floral and leaf shapes is entirely unique to this heritage printing process.
